Marathon Sunday — The Road Closure Problem

On marathon Sunday, the 26.2-mile course closes streets across all five boroughs from 7 AM to 6 PM. The Verrazzano Bridge, major Brooklyn avenues, the Queensboro Bridge, First Avenue in Manhattan, Willis Avenue Bridge to the Bronx, and Fifth Avenue through Central Park — all closed. Uber and Lyft drivers avoid the area entirely or surge 2-5x. Our chauffeurs carry detailed closure maps and know exactly which cross streets remain open.

About the NYC Marathon 2026

The TCS New York City Marathon is the world's largest marathon, with approximately 50,000 runners crossing the finish line each November. The 26.2-mile course begins at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island, crosses the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, winds through Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan before finishing in Central Park.

Over 1 million spectators line the course, and the event generates one of the most complex road closure patterns in New York City. Streets close across all five boroughs from early morning through late afternoon, making conventional transportation — driving, rideshare, even taxis — extremely difficult.

For runners, the biggest transportation challenge is getting to the Staten Island start by 7 AM (when the Verrazzano Bridge closes). For spectators, it is following the race across boroughs when half the city's streets are closed. For everyone, it is getting home afterward when demand for rides spikes and Uber surges 2-5x.

Professional car service with flat-rate pricing and road closure expertise solves every marathon transportation problem. Our chauffeurs carry detailed closure maps, know which cross streets remain open, and position for post-race pickup while the rest of the city scrambles.

NYC Marathon Transportation FAQ

How do runners get to the NYC Marathon start line?

+

The marathon starts at Fort Wadsworth in Staten Island. Most runners take official buses from Midtown Manhattan (departing 5:30-7 AM). We provide private car service to the Staten Island staging area via the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge — a quieter, more comfortable alternative to crowded shuttle buses. Your chauffeur can wait with your gear bag until race start.

Can you pick me up after the marathon at Central Park?

+

Yes — post-race pickup is one of our most requested marathon services. The finish line is in Central Park near Tavern on the Green (W 67th Street). Road closures make the area challenging, but our chauffeurs know the accessible streets around the park. We position on nearby cross streets (typically Columbus Avenue or Central Park West above 72nd) and walk you to the car.

Which roads are closed during the NYC Marathon?

+

The marathon course crosses all five boroughs: starting on the Verrazzano Bridge, through Brooklyn (4th Avenue, Flatbush), into Queens (Pulaski Bridge), through the Bronx (Willis Avenue Bridge, 138th Street), and finishing in Manhattan (Fifth Avenue, Central Park). Major crossings are closed 7 AM to 6 PM. Our chauffeurs have detailed closure maps and know which cross streets remain open for east-west travel.

How do spectators follow the marathon across boroughs?

+

We provide multi-stop spectator service — watch the start from Brooklyn (mile 3-8), drive to Queens (mile 13-15), cross to the Bronx (mile 20), and reach the Central Park finish. Your chauffeur navigates around road closures using open cross streets and bridges. Hourly service recommended for maximum flexibility.

Is there a marathon expo car service?

+

Yes — the TCS NYC Marathon Expo at the Javits Center (Fri-Sat before the race) is where runners pick up bibs and race packets. We provide car service to Javits from hotels, airports, and anywhere in the city. The Javits area gets congested during expo days — our chauffeurs use the West Side Highway approach.

What about marathon weekend airport transfers?

+

Marathon weekend is one of the busiest travel weekends in NYC — over 50,000 runners plus families. Airport demand is extremely high Friday through Monday. Book airport transfers at least 1 week ahead. We serve JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark with flat rates and flight tracking.

Can you transport my family to different spectator spots?

+

Yes — family spectator coordination is a specialty. We create a custom route to move your group between viewing points: Brooklyn (mile 8 at 4th Ave), Queensboro Bridge (mile 15), First Avenue (mile 18), Bronx (mile 20), Fifth Avenue (mile 23), and Central Park finish. Hourly service with a patient chauffeur who understands the route.

Will there be surge pricing on marathon Sunday?

+

Never. Marathon Sunday is chaos for rideshare — road closures across all five boroughs mean Uber and Lyft surge 2-5x and many drivers avoid the area entirely. Our flat rates are locked at booking. Your chauffeur knows the closure map and navigates accordingly.
